An initial development step for VIAME involves the integration of a limited number of existing algorithms for detection, tracking, classification to test the framework and identify gaps and development needs. To this end, the AIASI will host a VIAME software integration and training workshop to facilitate the integration and refinement of both the open-source framework (VIAME) and several image processing modules.

The workshop, or “hackathon”, will be held at the NOAA Northwest Fisheries Science Center, 2725 Montlake Blvd E, Seattle, WA 98112 on September 20-23, 2016.

Before the workshop, participants will download and install the software, will familiarize themselves with the general functionality, and will attempt to integrate their module using the API.

On August 31, 2016 a kickoff for the virtual “Day 0” of the hackathon was held via teleconference with the currently registered participants.

Participants will bring their partially-integrated modules to the workshop. During the workshop, developers from Kitware and participants will work side-by-side to complete the software integration. Questions will be addressed and answered in real-time, additional capabilities may be integrated and, if necessary, the API/SDK may be adapted to accommodate new or unforeseen data elements. At the conclusion of the workshop, the initial integration of two key image processing modules (CamTrawl and HabCam) into the VIAME framework should be complete.
